County Councillor Joanne Sexton is delighted to confirm that Clarendon School Safety Scheme will commence on 29th July.
ROAD CLOSED
Where: Knapp Road, Ashford
When: 29th July 2024
Duration: 2 Weeks, 24 hours a day due to the narrow road.
Why: Clarendon School Safety Scheme
This road closure is required whilst Surrey Highways construct Road Safety and Pedestrian Improvements to encourage sustainable modes of transport and reduce the volume of motor vehicles in the vicinity of Clarendon Primary School entrance.
This will involve constructing a road table on Knapp Road, with reduced carriageway width to decrease traffic speed and enhance pedestrian safety including for children who are walking, cycling and wheeling to the school. A continuous footway at the Knapp Road junction with Village Way will be installed to reinforce the rules of the Highway Code and give priority to pedestrians crossing the road at this location.
These measures will help reduce vehicle speeds, improve safety and accessibility for all road users
including pedestrians and cyclists accessing Clarendon Primary School, and encourage alternative and
healthier options for local travel and support sustainable travel.
Sometimes plans must change, often due to bad weather or problems on other works in the same programme which can have a knock-on effect. If anything changes with the details of these works, Surrey Highways will let you know.
