– update from Joanne Sexton
Feedback from Surreys Parking Review (Spelthorne) along with the data captured, provided valuable insight into the communities needs and preferences. Based on this information, we will NOT be proceeding with the pay-and-display option, instead we will be exploring alternative solutions. I will of course consult with you as and when Surrey develop these ideas. In the meantime, we will ask NSL to enhance their enforcement efforts to ensure parking spaces are freed up more frequently.
Surrey have confirmed that the proposed double yellow lines in the town centre, will be proceed for the following reasons:
- to maintain traffic flow, sight lines and road safety at all times
- to reduce the number of signs and street clutter in the town
- to make the waiting restrictions more noticeable and clearer to drivers and easier to enforce
- to ensure that these roadside areas are clear more often for drivers to load and unload goods or to pick up and drop off passengers; and to help keep the footways clear for pedestrians.
A more detailed response will be available in our ‘decision report’, which will be published online in November on our webpage www.surreycc.gov.uk/spelthorneparking (follow the link to the Spelthorne parking review 2023).
