Spelthorne Borough Council has received government funding to continue providing careers advice and employment support to young people in the Borough.
The Hub has become an invaluable asset, transforming countless lives by helping nearly 900 residents in the past year alone and achieving our employment targets three months ahead of schedule and can help with:
- 1-1 Advice and Support
- CV Writing
- Interview Skills
- Mentoring
- Apprenticeships
- Work Experience
- College Applications
- Skills Workshops
- Developing Confidence
- Careers Fairs
- Training
The Department of Work and Pensions has confirmed that it will provide a grant of £63K from January 2025 to enable the Council to continue providing support for young people at the Spelthorne Job and Skills Hub in Staines-upon-Thames. The Hub was established by Spelthorne Council in 2022 to help young people improve their skills and qualifications, gain work experience and apprenticeships, link up with employers, learn about vacancies and successfully apply for jobs.
Cllr Howard Williams, Chair of Spelthorne’s Business, Infrastructure and Growth Committee, said:
“Securing this funding for a fourth year is really good news for the Council and will enable us to continue the excellent work being undertaken at the Spelthorne Job and Skills Hub.“We know that young people face all kinds of barriers in finding suitable employment and do not always feel well supported, but we pride ourselves on giving tailored advice based on the individual’s circumstances, identifying gaps in skills and training, helping with practical things like drafting a CV, as well as linking people to local businesses which offer work experience or permanent employment. The team can also help with soft skills and developing individuals’ confidence to ensure they can reach their full potential.”
In 2023, the Hub opened its services to residents of all ages, and now provides support for everyone, from those looking for a new opportunity after redundancy, to those wanting a change of career or better work-life balance.
The Spelthorne Job and Skills Hub is open Monday to Friday from 10am – 4pm and can be found at 1-2 Friends Walk, Staines-upon-Thames, TW18 4PG (next to Staines Library). You can drop in or make an appointment.
