Annual Report 2024: Spelthorne Borough Council

The report contains an assessment of how Spelthorne Borough Council (SBC) have delivered against the commitments as set out in the Corporate Plan. Alongside this report, a live action tracker runs in parallel to measure and review the progress of the plan since it was launched at the start of 2024.

Spelthorne is a small authority, but the report highlights that it is an innovative, resilient and ambitious Borough. From supporting nearly 3,000 residents with hospital discharges to helping over 900 residents into employment at Spelthorne’s Jobs and Skills Hub.

Last year the Council also undertook the largest Residents’ Survey that this authority has ever undertaken. The 1,700 responses received far exceeded the Local Government Association own national benchmarks for service satisfaction, trust and delivering best value for money. Feedback has already been turned into an improvement in service levels, such as grass verge maintenance returning from Surrey County Council to Spelthorne, steps to tackle anti-social behaviour and new legislation around Houses of Multiple Occupation.

Cllr Joanne Sexton, Leader of Spelthorne Borough Council said, “I am incredibly proud of our track record of delivering tangible outcomes: in one year, Spelthorne opened the world’s largest Passivhaus Leisure Centre in tandem with providing the largest Local Authority Housing Fund programme of any district or borough council in the country. This Administration continues to advocate for the services and resources that our communities need for a stronger, healthier and safer Borough.” 

Spelthorne prides itself on providing community services for its residents and the commercial property portfolio that Spelthorne owns generates revenue that directly supports local services that many other authorities can no longer afford to provide, such as community transport and grants to voluntary organisations.
