May 2022 – Conservative controlled Spelthorne Council votes to submit its Local Plan for examination despite concerns from the Environment Agency over flood risk (no “statement of common ground” with the EA). 25th November 2022 – Draft Local Plan to the Planning Inspectorate for examination

2023
4th May 2023 – Local elections result in Conservatives losing control of the council.
Independent Spelthorne Group leader Joanne Sexton is elected Leader of the Council.
23rd May 2023 – Examination of Local Plan starts
June 2023 – New coalition council (excluding Conservatives) votes to ask the Inspector to pause his Examination for 3 months, to enable new councillors to familiarise themselves with it.
September 2023 – Council votes to extend the pause (in face of an intervention by the Conservative minister denying Council the option of asking for the withdrawal of the plan).
2024
October 2024 – Following modifications to the plan to address flood risk, a statement of common ground is signed with the EA.
October 2024 – In light of the statement of common ground with the EA, council votes to ask the Inspector to resume the Examination
2025
28th January to 18th February – Public Hearing sessions covering Weeks 2, 3 and 4
April 3rd to May 15th – Public consultation on the proposed Main Modifications
6 June – Representations made under the public consultation on the Main Modifications to the Spelthorne Local Plan submitted to the Inspector.
