Update 16th October 2024

Work is continuing with Spelthorne Borough Council and our community to create a new Design Code that will set out the design requirements for proposed new development in the Borough. Earlier this year the Council launched an innovative and interactive approach to developing its Design Code, placing community engagement at the heart of the process.

How you can have your voice heard:

1. Citizens’ Panel: A diverse group of local people will be selected to form a dedicated panel, providing ongoing input and feedback throughout the process. Panel members will be selected blindly so that it is demographically representative of the Borough. Applications to join are now open and the deadline to apply is 11:59pm on Sunday 20 October.

Participants do not need prior knowledge but an interest in the Borough and a willingness to listen to the information presented and share their opinions. The Panel will take part in three focus sessions. Two of them are scheduled for Saturday 16 November and Saturday 23 November, while the last session will be in January 2025.  Panel members will be remunerated with a total of £100 in high-street vouchers.

2. Interactive Map: The Interactive Map provides a quick and easy way to express your opinion on the online engagement hub, allowing residents to simply drop a pin on specific locations within the community and share their thoughts, as well as photographs, about that location or area or more specific design feature. The Interactive Map can be accessed here.

3. Extra drop-in session: A consultation drop-in event for local people to find out more about Spelthorne Design Code, ask questions and share their thoughts through interactive activities.

Cllr Tony Burrell, Chair of the Design Code task group said:
“We believe that the people who live and work in our community are best placed to shape its future. This community-led approach will ensure that our Design Code truly reflects what our residents want for Spelthorne. Please do let us know your views by applying to join the Citizens’ Panel or by adding your comments to the interactive map. Our goal is to empower local people to co-create a community led vision for the Borough and at the end of this process, create a Design Code that reflects the aspirations and needs of our community.”
