Please be aware that some works will be taking place in early 2025 to decommission part of the Esso Scott Freeman Gardens fuel pipeline. This pipeline is now redundant, as it has been replaced by the new Southampton to London pipeline project, which you may be familiar with.
What will happen?
The mechanics of the decommissioning work involves a combination of capping the old pipeline and filling it with ‘grout’, which is a cementitious powder mixed with water and then pumped into the pipeline, where it sets hard.
Where?
One of the sites is Scott Freeman Gardens in Ashford, which is owned by Spelthorne Borough Council (SBC)

When?
The works are due to start on 7th January 2025 and are targeted to complete in two weeks. To help the contractor carry out works safely they will be creating a temporary compound area within Scott Freeman Gardens and will require traffic management to be in place on Stanwell Road at certain times during the works.
The decommissioning programme is currently running to schedule, but if there are any changes we will update you as soon as we are made aware.

Ashford Town Ward Councillor
